How it works

Take or choose a photo
Face the camera squarely, about an arm and a half from a plain wall, with daylight in front of you. Any recent photo works if your whole head and the top of your shoulders are in frame.

We measure and cut
We find your face, separate you from the background, and crop to the size your country publishes: head height, eye line and margins included. Anything outside the tolerance is flagged with what to change.

Download and print
You get a file sized for the online application and a printable sheet with cutting guides, at 10×15 cm or A4, for a photo shop or your own printer.
Why this is free
A passport photo costs ten to fifteen euros at a shop, and most online tools show you the result and then ask for a card number before they let you download it. That pattern only works because the file is held on their server.
Nothing here runs on a server. The models that find your face and remove the background are downloaded to your browser the first time you use the tool, and every step after that happens on your own device. There is no file for us to hold back, so there is nothing to charge for.
The site is paid for by advertising placed beside the writing, never inside the tool. There is no ad between you and your download.

Is it really free, and where is the catch?
It is free, and the download is the full-resolution file with no watermark. The site is paid for by advertising, which sits beside the guides and never inside the tool or above the download button.
Do you keep my photo?
We never receive it. The processing runs in your browser, so there is no upload and nothing on our side to keep. Closing the tab removes it from the page.
Will my application be accepted?
We produce a photo that meets the requirements the authority publishes, and we tell you when something is outside tolerance. The decision is still the authority's, and any tool that promises acceptance is overstating what it can know.
Can I use a photo I already have?
Yes, if your whole head and the top of your shoulders are in it, it is in focus, and it is recent enough for the country's rule. Most require a photo taken within the last six months.
Does the background have to be a real white wall?
No. We replace the background with the colour your country's template specifies. An even, uncluttered wall of any plain colour gives the cleanest edge; a busy background makes the cut-out around hair harder.
Why do I need to download models the first time?
Because the processing happens on your device rather than on a server, the vision models have to come to you. They download once, are cached by your browser, and are the reason the photo never has to be uploaded.
Does this work on an old phone?
Usually, more slowly. The work is done by your device, so a five-year-old handset may take some seconds where a recent one takes one. If it fails, a laptop with the same photo will normally succeed.
Can I use the result for a visa as well as a passport?
Sometimes, but not automatically. Several countries publish different digital file limits for visa applications than for passports. Pick the visa template rather than reusing the passport file.
